New Delhi: Even as Iran has again closed the Strait of Hormuz, the Union government said three crude oil tankers are currently sailing towards India after successfully passing through the strategic waterway.
Iran has shut the strait again, alleging that the US and Israel violated a war agreement. The move has disrupted shipping and raised concerns globally about a possible crude oil shortage.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the three vessels together are carrying more than 860,000 metric tonnes of crude oil.
In a post on X, the minister said the Indian-flagged tankers—Desh Vaibhav, Desh Vibhor and Sanmar Herald—crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Friday with 94 Indian crew members on board, and are expected to reach India soon.
