Hindu Munnani, at its state general council meeting held in Tirunelveli, adopted a set of resolutions on social and religious issues. The meeting was chaired by state president Kadeswara Subramaniyam.
State vice-president Jayakumar, South India organiser Bhaktan, and office-bearers from state, district and union levels took part. Representatives from community and spiritual organisations also attended.
Among the key demands, the organisation called for a separate board to protect temples in Tamil Nadu. It also urged that any move to ban religious symbols in schools should not be allowed.
The resolutions further sought strict action to curb crimes against women and children and to crack down on drug sales. The group also asked the government to ease devotees’ difficulties at the Tiruchendur temple and to implement a court order related to lighting the lamp at the Deepa Thoon in Thirupparankundram.
In addition, the meeting called for immediate steps to protect the Thamirabarani river and urged implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.
