UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation on Sunday, bringing an end to days of political uncertainty in Britain.

Starmer faced intense opposition from within his own Labour Party. Reports said more than 100 MPs turned against him, while several ministers also resigned from their posts, deepening the crisis.

With the pressure continuing to build, expectations had grown that Starmer could quit at any moment. He has now formally confirmed he is stepping down as prime minister.

Starmer also said he will resign as Labour Party leader and pledged his support to the person who will take over as the next prime minister.

Earlier, Starmer came out of the prime minister’s official residence with his wife to submit his resignation letter. Addressing the gathered public, he recalled arriving there two years ago as a proud moment and said he entered politics with the aim of changing the lives of millions.
