A major fire broke out on June 22 at a training centre operating on an upper floor of a commercial complex in Purnia area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The blaze spread rapidly across the building after initially starting slowly.

Students inside the centre reportedly panicked on noticing the fire. With little time to react, some jumped from the floor in an attempt to save their lives.

Local residents alerted the fire and police departments and tried to help those trapped. Firefighters reached the spot and brought the flames under control after a brief struggle.

Officials said 11 students have died in the incident. Rescue operations are continuing, but heavy black smoke inside the building is delaying efforts, and authorities fear the death toll could increase.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Police have launched an investigation.
