Agriculture Minister Vinoth on Sunday said the Tamil Nadu government is making arrangements to ensure paddy bags stored across the state are not damaged by rain, adding that similar issues would not recur in the coming seasons.

His remarks came after a news report highlighted rain damage to paddy bags at an open storage yard in Pattisvaram near Kumbakonam, in Thanjavur district. Following the report, the minister inspected the affected facility.

According to the minister, around 600 paddy bags had been soaked at the open yard. He said the available stock has been dispatched to rice mills, while repair work is under way at spots where rainwater had stagnated.

Vinoth said converting open yards into covered warehouses would take at least six months, and that temporary arrangements are being made to store paddy safely before the monsoon. He also said action would be taken against officials concerned in connection with the damage.
