Students who appeared for the NEET re-examination on Sunday said the paper was slightly tougher than the May 3 test that was later cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak.

NEET scores are used for admissions to MBBS, BDS and other medical courses across India. This year’s exam was originally scheduled for May 3, with 22.79 lakh applicants nationwide and over 1.42 lakh from Tamil Nadu.

After complaints that the question paper had leaked in Rajasthan, a preliminary inquiry found the leak to be true. The National Testing Agency subsequently cancelled the May 3 exam and announced a re-test.

The re-exam was held in 551 cities across the country. In Tamil Nadu, it took place at 307 centres across 31 districts, with candidates arriving from 11 am and undergoing strict checks before entry. Gates were closed at 1:30 pm; the exam ran from 2 pm to 5:15 pm.

Several parents waited at the entrances and received their children as they came out around 5:30 pm, while some students were seen in tears. Candidates said the re-exam was tougher than May 3, with one student noting Biology and Chemistry were harder, and another saying Physics was particularly difficult and could affect scores.
