Police in Tamil Nadu have arrested two men in separate incidents following complaints of sexual harassment by female students—one in Pudukottai district and another in Erode.
In Pudukottai, Adhanakkottai Government High School physical education teacher Amos Devasahayam (52) was accused of repeatedly harassing a Class 10 student. The complaint said that after a sports event held on February 22 at a private college in Pudukottai, he drove the student and her friend in his car and allegedly harassed the victim again while she was seated in the front.
Based on the complaint, the Pudukottai women’s police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.
In Erode, Rajaram (47), a professor at a private engineering college, was arrested after a 20-year-old student alleged that he hugged her from behind when she approached to submit her answer sheet during a semester examination at another college, where he was serving as an invigilator.
Following the student’s complaint, the Erode women’s police booked him under laws related to prevention of violence and harassment against women and took him into custody.
