A public interest petition has been filed before the Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench seeking clearer details in encumbrance certificates issued by the Tamil Nadu Registration Department.
The petitioner, Kumar from Madurai, told the court that key identifiers of a property—such as the survey number and sub-division number—are not being clearly mentioned in the encumbrance certificates currently issued.
He argued that the lack of precise property particulars can create confusion for buyers and the public, and may open room for disputes during property transactions.
The matter was taken up at the Madurai Bench, drawing attention to the need for better clarity in official property records and certificates.
The petition highlights the importance of ensuring that encumbrance certificates carry complete and unambiguous property details for verification purposes.
