A blast at a gas plant in Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial area has left 13 people dead, including 12 Indian nationals, according to Qatari authorities.
The incident occurred at a facility where work was under way to restore operations after the plant had remained shut due to damage linked to attacks from Iran. The explosion was followed by a fast-spreading fire at the site.
Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Al Kaabi confirmed the casualties, stating that the deceased included Indian and Pakistani citizens. He said a total of 66 people were injured, including Indians.
Officials said the injured are receiving medical care and their lives are not in danger. The impact of the blast was reportedly felt up to 70 kilometres from Ras Laffan.
The Indian Embassy in Doha expressed condolences to the families of those who died and said it is in continuous contact with Qatari authorities regarding the incident.
