Tamil Nadu will roll out the ‘Maternal Uncle Gold Ring’ scheme on September 15, under which babies born in government hospitals will receive a one-gram gold ring.
The benefit will be provided to children born to women who deliver in government hospitals and are permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.
The government said the initiative is aimed at strengthening public trust in state health services, marking the birth of a child in a memorable way, and celebrating the joy and importance of motherhood.
An annual allocation of Rs 755.83 crore has been earmarked for the scheme. The Chief Minister has directed officials to call for tenders for its implementation.
As per the announcement, babies born in government hospitals from June 22 will be eligible for the benefit, while the formal launch is scheduled to be carried out by Chief Minister Vijay on September 15.
