The Tamil Nadu government has decided to procure new mobile numbers from BSNL for ministers and key officials after their contact numbers were publicly released, leading to a flood of daily calls.
According to the report, the numbers of ministers, their assistants and Secretariat officials were recently published as part of an effort to keep government functioning transparent, following directions from Chief Minister Vijay.
However, the heavy volume of incoming calls has reportedly disrupted routine coordination, making it difficult for ministers and officials to reach one another when needed.
To address this, the government is arranging department-wise mobile connections meant exclusively for internal communication. BSNL officials said the new SIMs are being issued under a Closed User Group (CUG) system.
They added that these internal numbers will not be published on public platforms or government websites and are intended only for administrative use within the government.
