Chennai: Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Monday urged Chief Minister Vijay to “give up the job of recruiting people” and focus on governance and administration. He made the remarks while concluding the debate on the Governor’s address in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Udhayanidhi alleged that the government was attempting to stall the DMK-era “Naan Mudhalvan” initiative, which he said had benefited 41 lakh students. He said such moves deserved condemnation.
He also flagged distress in the delta region, saying kuruvai cultivation had been affected and that farmers were protesting that the announced ₹136-crore kuruvai package was inadequate. He asked the Chief Minister to hold talks with representatives of farmers’ associations and extend the required assistance.
Raising concerns over law and order, he accused party workers of playing “kuthu” songs and filming reels in government schools and demanded that it be stopped. He further claimed women and children were unsafe, citing a sexual assault case involving a three-year-old in Gummidipoondi, and said multiple sexual assault incidents were reported within a 24-hour period.
Referring to the Governor’s address, he sought clarity on a proposed new “Tamil Nadu Investors Promotion Commission” under the Chief Secretary, asking what would happen to the existing “Vazhikatti” agency. He reiterated that the Chief Minister, who holds the police portfolio, must respond and take steps to restore law and order.
