Mumbai saw an unusually intense spell of rain as the southwest monsoon arrived 13 days later than usual, disrupting normal life across the city and nearby areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert at 4 am on Tuesday for Mumbai and Palghar districts, warning of thunderstorms, very heavy rainfall and strong winds of 40–60 kmph.

Heavy rain continued from Monday night into Tuesday morning, with several locations recording over 300 mm of rainfall. South Mumbai reported 248 mm, described as the highest June rainfall in the last 10 years.

The downpour led to waterlogging on roads and traffic disruptions, leaving motorists struggling. Trees were uprooted in multiple areas, and a retaining wall collapsed near a residential building in Vikhroli West.

At Dadar railway station—an important junction connecting central and western suburban lines—flooding was reported after the morning rain. In Dadar, a tree fell on a car during the downpour, causing damage.
