Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has said the country will not withdraw its military presence from southern Lebanon, even if the United States presses for a pullback.
His remarks come after a ceasefire agreement was signed between the US and Iran. As part of the understanding, Israel’s attacks in Lebanon were expected to stop, but Israel has continued its operations.
According to the report, two people were killed in an attack carried out on Tuesday, raising fresh doubts over the durability of the peace arrangement.
Katz said Israel’s army and air force would not be pulled out from the southern Lebanon area, and that troops would remain there regardless of any American request.
He also claimed that displaced Lebanese residents would not be resettled and that around 200,000 people would not return, citing past incidents of explosions even in areas described as security zones.
