Chennai: Several ministers in the current Tamil Nadu cabinet have begun visiting the offices of government secretaries at the Secretariat to clarify doubts and better understand their departments.
The cabinet has 34 ministers, of whom 33 are new, with Sengottaiyan being the lone exception. The debate on the Governor’s address in the Assembly has concluded.
The general budget and the agriculture budget are expected to be presented in the second week of July. This will be followed by discussions on the budget and on grant demands, during which ministers must respond to department-wise questions raised by the opposition.
During the recent debate on the Governor’s address, only a few ministers answered opposition queries, while most did not. With the grant-demand debates approaching, ministers are now focusing on learning their portfolios and have started meeting their respective department secretaries at the Secretariat.
