Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressing regret over a remark made during a 2018 election campaign in Jahoba, Madhya Pradesh.
In the speech, Rahul had alleged that then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and current Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his son Kartikeya Chouhan and their family had links to the Panama Papers corruption case.
Following the statement, Kartikeya Singh Chouhan approached the special MP-MLA court in Bhopal, alleging that the comment damaged his reputation and filing a defamation case against Rahul.
The trial court issued summons directing Rahul to appear in person. Challenging the summons, Rahul moved the High Court through counsel.
In the petition, Rahul has stated that he did not speak in a manner specifically referring to Kartikeya Singh, and has conveyed regret for the remarks.
