PMK founder S. Ramadoss and party president Anbumani Ramadoss met after a long gap on Tuesday at the family’s Thailapuram estate near Tindivanam, marking Ramadoss and his wife’s 61st wedding anniversary. Witnesses said Ramadoss embraced his son and became emotional, as family members looked on.
The father-son relationship had been strained since a clash at the PMK general council meeting held in Puducherry on December 28, 2024. After that episode, the two functioned separately, and the party saw prolonged uncertainty over leadership.
On the anniversary day, Anbumani arrived with his wife Sowmya, other family members and grandchildren. He and his family sought blessings from Ramadoss and his mother Saraswathi, and the gathering included his younger sister Kavitha’s family, while his elder sister Sreekanthi’s family did not attend.
After meeting Ramadoss, Anbumani told reporters that the family had come to convey wishes and receive blessings, adding that “good things will happen” going forward. Party functionaries said the two spoke with relatives for about two-and-a-half hours, during which Ramadoss appreciated Anbumani’s initiatives, including convening an all-party meeting for a social justice survey and ensuring it was reflected in the Governor’s address.
Leaders said Ramadoss also urged Anbumani to strengthen the party by reaching villages and to pay attention to PMK’s 34 affiliated wings, including the Vanniyar Sangam, youth and women’s wings, and Pasumai Thaayagam, with an announcement expected soon. PMK honorary president G.K. Mani welcomed the reunion, calling it a positive sign that could strengthen the party.
