Sources in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government claim Chief Minister Vijay has been taken aback by a set of conditions reportedly laid down by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan for formally exiting the DMK alliance.

According to the sources, the VCK and the Muslim League initially extended unconditional support to the TVK government and later joined the Cabinet. The VCK is now said to be pressing for a change in the Social Justice portfolio, conveying the demand through minister Aadhav Arjuna.

In parallel, the TVK side is said to have asked its supporting parties, including the VCK, to officially sever ties with the DMK alliance. The Congress, the CPI and the Muslim League have reportedly announced their exit from the DMK alliance.

A recent meeting at minister Aadhav Arjuna’s office in Chennai’s Poes Garden, attended by Thirumavalavan and senior TVK functionaries, focused on the alliance issue. Thirumavalavan is said to have insisted that the VCK would announce its formal exit only after its demands are met, including key board positions, a decision on the requested portfolio change, and clarity on his stated intention to contest the Trichy East by-election.

The discussions reportedly lasted over two hours, with Thirumavalavan reiterating the same position. Sources add that even after the Chief Minister spoke to him over the phone, there was no change, and the expanding list of demands has left Vijay “shocked.”
