A powerful earthquake struck Venezuela, shaking buildings in the capital Caracas and causing widespread damage, according to local authorities.

The quake occurred about 28 km west of Morón on the country’s Caribbean coast. The US Geological Survey reported the magnitude at 7.1–7.5, with a depth of around 13 km.

Officials said two strong tremors were felt within minutes, triggering building collapses in Caracas. Tsunami warnings were issued for parts of the Caribbean coast and were later lifted.

Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello confirmed damage to multiple buildings. Authorities said 32 people died after being trapped under debris, while about 700 were injured.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and said India is ready to provide all necessary assistance to those affected.
