An incident at Ahmedabad airport triggered panic among passengers after two aircraft ended up facing each other on the same runway-side path on Wednesday night.

According to reports, an Air India flight carrying 164 passengers had arrived and was taxiing towards its parking bay when an IndiGo aircraft entered the taxi route for departure, bringing the two planes head-on.

Following the near-miss, the Air India aircraft was safely moved to an alternate location. The situation led to a delay of about 20 minutes for the IndiGo flight’s departure.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said the Ahmedabad–Mumbai flight was proceeding for take-off when another airline’s aircraft unexpectedly came onto its path. The airline said the matter was immediately reported to the concerned authorities.

After the other aircraft was shifted away, the IndiGo flight departed and later landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the spokesperson added.
