VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan has asked the Tamil Nadu government to drop its plan to outsource sanitation work in all municipal corporations through private contracts.
He also questioned the government’s announcement that ₹755 crore would be allocated for a scheme to provide a one-gram gold ring to babies born in government hospitals.
Pointing to the high cost of deliveries in private hospitals—around ₹50,000 for normal delivery and ₹1 lakh for caesarean—he said even poor families choose private facilities for the safety of mother and child.
Instead of spending on gold rings that may not fit the child after a few months, he suggested the same funds be used to create well-equipped maternity wards in government hospitals.
Separately, Thirumavalavan criticised Chief Minister Vijay for remarks that mocked former Chief Minister Stalin’s loss of victory prospects, saying such comments were not appropriate for the office and should have been avoided in the Assembly.
