Chennai: The war of words between the DMK and the Marxist camp backing the TAVEGA government has reached a new peak, with exchanges increasingly shifting from political criticism to personal attacks.

The article notes that alliance equations in Tamil Nadu have changed after the 2026 election results. Parties that were earlier part of the DMK-led front—such as the Congress, VCK, Left parties and the Muslim League—are described as having moved to support TAVEGA.

Amid this churn, Communist parties have taken differing positions, stating they remain in the DMK alliance while also extending support to the TAVEGA government. DMK leader M.K. Stalin is quoted as making contrasting claims at different stages—first suggesting allies had informed him before backing TAVEGA, and later saying they had not.

Tensions rose further after the CPI criticised the DMK for speaking differently “outside and inside”. A subsequent article by P. Shanmugam on the new political situation and the Marxist stance drew a strong response from the DMK’s party daily, which ran a series targeting him.

In reply, Shanmugam’s “kolgai pudalangai” (policy gourd) criticism reportedly offended DMK functionaries, especially as it was seen as comparing the DMK with the BJP. With both sides continuing to trade barbs in official newspapers and on social media, the dispute has deepened, the report said.
