Tiruppur: Hindu Munnani has strongly criticised incidents in which party workers reportedly placed Chief Minister Vijay’s photograph inside the sanctum sanctorum of several temples and conducted worship as part of his birthday celebrations.
In a statement, state president Kadeswara Subramaniyam said the organisation conveyed birthday wishes to the Chief Minister on June 22, hoping for his long life, good health and good governance for Tamil Nadu. However, he objected to the manner in which some celebrations were carried out.
He cited an event at the Palani temple where, during a worship ritual involving pulling the golden chariot, a photograph of CM Vijay was allegedly placed on the chariot by a party district functionary. He also referred to a worship at the Balapattarai Mariamman temple in Namakkal district, where party members allegedly threatened the priest and placed the Chief Minister’s photo inside the sanctum alongside the deity for a special pooja.
According to the statement, similar acts were reported in Krishnagiri district during celebrations led by a district secretary, with photographs placed inside the sanctums of Vinayagar and Amman temples. Hindu Munnani said such actions have shocked devotees and urged CM Vijay to issue immediate guidance to his party cadre to prevent a repeat.
