Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles on Friday for a three-day official visit to the Indian Ocean island nation. He was received at the airport by Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan, with members of the Indian-origin community also welcoming him with traditional Indian dance.
Seychelles will mark its 50th National Day on June 29, where Modi is scheduled to attend as the chief guest. Two Indian Navy ships and Indian defence personnel are also expected to take part in the celebrations.
During the visit, Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with President Ramkalawan. In a post on X, the Prime Minister thanked the President for the warm reception and described Seychelles as a valued maritime partner and a close friend of India in the Indian Ocean region.
Modi and the Seychelles President later travelled together in the same car to the National Botanical Gardens. Modi planted a sapling there and also visited Jonathan, the tortoise recognised by Guinness as the world’s oldest at 194 years, at the gardens.
