New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has accused Opposition parties of running a “planned” defamation campaign against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over Operation Sindoor.
The controversy follows the Centre’s first-time release of the names of six soldiers who died during the Operation Sindoor action. Opposition parties have questioned why, during a Parliament speech last year on the operation, Rajnath Singh did not provide information about the deaths.
They have also alleged that the government misled the country and concealed the soldiers’ sacrifice.
Responding on X, the Defence Ministry said a portion of Rajnath Singh’s July 28, 2025 speech is being circulated on social media with the intent to defame him. It said it is false to portray the minister as having claimed that no soldier died during Operation Sindoor.
According to the ministry, the minister’s remarks were specifically addressing rumours that Indian pilots had died during the operation, and the Opposition has created the dispute by ignoring the full context of the speech.
