Higher Education Minister Viswanathan on Saturday said there should be “no room even to talk of bribery” in the state’s higher education department, including in matters such as appointments and transfers.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at Kathir Arts and Science College in Neelambur, Coimbatore, the minister said the department would not accept bribes for any purpose and would work with the government to achieve a fully corruption-free environment.

He also referred to the Chief Minister’s guidance, saying he had been entrusted with an important portfolio and was asked to handle it with care. The minister added that earlier Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu did not allow space for bribery.

Addressing students, Viswanathan said hard work and confidence can help them achieve their goals, and urged them to learn to respect their parents. He also appealed to the public not to give bribes, stressing that citizens too have a role in preventing corruption.
