Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred Seychelles’ highest national award during his visit to the island nation, ahead of its 50th National Day celebrations on June 29. Modi is attending the event as a special guest.

He arrived in Seychelles to an enthusiastic reception, with President Patrick personally welcoming him.

The award was presented in recognition of Modi’s long-term efforts towards sustainable development and his green, forward-looking vision, according to the report.

Modi and President Patrick held bilateral talks, during which both sides discussed steps to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Modi said agreements signed between the two nations would help India deepen its engagement with Africa, and stressed the need to make greater use of digital technology.
