A woman from Thalavaipalayam near Uthukuli in Tiruppur district died after attempting to deliver her baby at home with guidance from a YouTube video, police said.
The woman, identified as Sasikala, was pregnant and reportedly carried out the delivery at home with help from her husband and other family members. The baby was born a few days ago.
However, her bleeding did not stop after the delivery. Alarmed relatives rushed her to a private hospital in Coimbatore, where she died despite treatment.
Doctors indicated that the bleeding was triggered because the placenta did not come out fully, a complication linked to the home delivery. During inquiry, it emerged that since her first child was born through a caesarean section, the family had tried for a natural delivery for the second child.
The newborn is under the observation of government doctors. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
