Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has instructed all departments to avoid sending written “notes” for review meetings and instead present their updates through photo-based slides.

According to officials, the change is aimed at making discussions more direct and easier to follow during departmental reviews.

The approach has drawn comparisons in official circles to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s early administrative changes in 2014. At the time, senior officials attending meetings with the Prime Minister were known to bring large bundles of files and papers, often filled with lengthy write-ups.

Officials said Modi did not prefer such long documentation and directed that matters be presented briefly, with the pros and cons of plans shown clearly through PowerPoint presentations on screen. The same practice continues in the Union government.

Officials familiar with the Tamil Nadu government’s move said adopting a similar format can save time and help the Chief Minister understand more clearly what departments are seeking to convey.
