Chennai: Allegations of irregularities have surfaced in the results of the recruitment exam held to select assistant professors for Tamil Nadu government colleges. Candidates have claimed that the English subject results carried “color codes” that could be used to identify examinees.
Tamil Nadu has over 8,000 vacant assistant professor posts in government arts and science colleges. The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) had issued a notification last year to fill 2,708 posts. As per the details cited, 47,047 people applied, 42,064 wrote the exam held on December 27, and the results were released on June 25.
Honorary lecturers and candidates have alleged multiple lapses in evaluation. They pointed to Paper 2, where five questions carried 10 marks each, and claimed that some candidates were awarded 49 marks while others received zero. They further alleged that those senior in service were given only single-digit marks.
Thangaraj, state president of the Tamil Nadu All Government College UGC-qualified Honorary Lecturers Association, said a petition would be submitted to the School Education Department Secretary and the Commissioner of Collegiate Education seeking cancellation of the exam and a CBI inquiry into the alleged malpractice.
AIADMK general secretary Palaniswami also demanded that TRB publish the evaluation criteria, model answers and the method of awarding marks, and called for an inquiry and action against those responsible, citing concerns over the future of youth.
