Chief Minister Vijay has instructed officials to take firm steps to create a drug-free Tamil Nadu. He issued the direction during a conference of IAS and IPS officers at the Secretariat in Chennai.
The two-day meet began under his leadership and will continue tomorrow as well. After holding discussions with senior civil and police officers, the Chief Minister addressed the gathering on Sunday.
He said special focus must be placed on preventing crimes against women and children. He also urged the administration to function as a government for the public, without giving priority based on political affiliation, and to ensure government schemes are implemented fully.
On law and order, he called for concrete measures to eliminate drug abuse and stressed that incidents like the Kallakurichi illicit liquor deaths should not recur. He added that police should be able to act without political interference, including from his own party members.
