Chennai: Officials in the Tamil Nadu Secretariat say files sent to Chief Minister Vijay’s office in the morning are being signed and returned by evening, a turnaround that has surprised many in the administration.

Since taking charge as Chief Minister, Vijay has reportedly been arriving at the Secretariat between 9.30 am and 10 am and staying until around 6 pm to focus on official work. Departments routinely send files seeking approvals for project implementation and financial requirements.

According to a senior IAS officer quoted in the report, the current pace is notably different from previous administrations. The officer said earlier Chief Ministers handled both governance and political work, while Vijay is said to be concentrating on administrative duties at the Secretariat, giving him more time for file clearance.

The officer also claimed that files which earlier waited for days are now returning within hours, and that ministers are also signing promptly. The report adds that officials have been given greater authority to take decisions, and the officer suggested that if this continues for five years, the state could see faster growth.
