Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday said India is a pioneer among major democracies when it comes to transparency in elections.
Speaking to reporters during a three-day visit to Kashmir, he said he interacted with booth-level officers—described as key pillars of the country’s democracy—and discussed the strengths of India’s election processes.
He noted that election procedures are continuously monitored at every stage, from the preparation of electoral rolls to polling and the counting of votes. He added that audits are also carried out as part of the system.
Referring to the robustness of these mechanisms, the CEC said India stands out globally for election transparency. He also pointed to India holding the leadership responsibility of an international institution for democracy and electoral assistance.
Gyanesh Kumar reiterated his congratulations to booth-level officers, supervisors and other personnel involved in the conduct of elections.
