Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to eight newly elected members of the Upper House on Monday.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge took the oath separately in the Chairman’s chamber, while the remaining seven members were sworn in in the Rajya Sabha chamber.
Besides Kharge and Tarun Sukh, the new members include Jitendra Meghjibhai Kansaria and Mansing Meraman Parmar from Gujarat, M. Nagaraja from Karnataka, Rajendra Hiralal Jain from Maharashtra, Sharada Devi from Manipur, and Alka Singh from Rajasthan.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the swearing-in ceremony.
After taking oath, Kharge expressed gratitude to the Congress leadership, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, as well as party MPs and workers, and said he looked forward to working in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
