Manickam Tagore, newly appointed president of the Tamil Nadu Congress, is set to assume charge on Monday at 4 pm at the party headquarters, Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Chennai.
He takes over after Selva Perunthagai was replaced from the post, according to the report.
In a video message, Tagore said that after 59 years the Congress now has two ministers, and described participation in governance as a long-held goal that has been achieved.
He also said the government is functioning under Chief Minister Vijay’s leadership, and called it a matter of pride to take charge as state president in such a situation.
Looking ahead, Tagore said the next objective is to make Rahul Gandhi the country’s Prime Minister, adding that 40 MPs should be elected from Tamil Nadu to achieve that goal.
