DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday said Tamil Nadu could head for elections soon and asked party workers to remain fully prepared for a poll at any time.
Speaking at an event in Vanagaram, Chennai, where members from other parties joined the DMK, Stalin alleged that the state’s situation had deteriorated rapidly after the change in government.
He claimed industries were hesitant to invest in Tamil Nadu and were choosing other states instead. He also alleged a decline in law and order, saying even ruling-party members were linked to criminal cases.
Stalin pointed to issues such as power cuts and farmers’ protests, and accused the government of running the administration in a diversionary manner without addressing core problems.
He further argued that the ruling party did not have a majority on its own and was surviving with the support of parties that had voted for the DMK. “Whether elections come in a month or in six months, we must be 100% ready,” he said.
