Transport Minister V. Thamizhann Parthiban on Sunday said Tamil Nadu is set to roll out free travel for women on all government buses, with an official announcement expected soon from the Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters in Salem after inaugurating a polio drop drive at the Kumarasamy Patti primary health centre and opening a medical camp organised at Seelanayakkanpatti, the minister said the implementation plan has been prepared and consultations have concluded.
He added that the transport department is moving ahead with a series of measures aimed at increasing revenue, while also taking steps to support workers in the sector.
The minister said the Chief Minister has prioritised improving connectivity between remote villages and cities. Referring to the Chief Minister’s remarks during a bus journey, he said the goal is for all people to be able to travel in air-conditioned buses, and steps will be taken to procure more AC buses.
He also said the matter of installing new air-conditioners at the Salem Government Hospital has been brought to the attention of the Health Minister.
