Union Minister of State L Murugan on Sunday said Tamil Nadu is being allocated between Rs 6,000 crore and Rs 7,000 crore annually for railway projects.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchendur, he said that over the past 12 years, infrastructure across the country—including railways, national highways and airport expansion—has been strengthened.
Murugan noted that the Tuticorin airport has been developed with a longer runway, and that a shipbuilding yard is also planned for Tuticorin.
He added that under the Amrit Bharat scheme, work is under way to upgrade 77 railway stations in Tamil Nadu. For Tiruchendur, which he said sees about 50,000 devotees travelling daily, the need for additional basic facilities at the railway station will be reviewed.
Murugan also claimed that during the previous regime, Tamil Nadu received only Rs 800 crore per year for railway projects, whereas the current annual allocation stands at Rs 6,000–7,000 crore.
