Brazil sealed a dramatic 2-1 win over Japan in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match in Houston, United States, scoring the decisive goal deep into stoppage time.
Japan struck first in the 29th minute through Kaishu Sano, taking a 1-0 lead into half-time. Brazil, ranked fifth in the world, controlled possession for long spells but struggled to convert chances, and Neymar did not feature in the match.
The equaliser arrived in the 56th minute when Casemiro headed in a lofted ball from Gabriel. Two minutes later, Vinicius Junior came close, but Japan goalkeeper Gian Suzuki got a touch and the ball hit the post, denying Brazil a quick second.
In stoppage time, Casemiro went off injured at 90+2. Brazil then found the winner at 90+5 as Bruno Guimaraes set up Gabriel Martinelli, who finished to send Brazil into the Round of 16. Brazil will face either Ivory Coast or Norway on July 5.
