President Droupadi Murmu on June 29 presented the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) to Lieutenant General Gopalan Muralitharan at a special service awards ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The President’s service decorations are among India’s highest national honours for uniformed personnel, recognising distinguished service and acts of courage across the armed forces and police.

Lt Gen Muralitharan serves in the Indian Army’s medical branch. The AVSM was conferred on him for his notable service.

At the same ceremony, AVSM honours were also awarded to Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney (Electronics and Mechanical Engineers), Lt Gen Aditya Vikram Singh Rathi and Lt Gen Puneet Ahuja (Brigade of the Guards), Vice Admiral A.Y. Sardesai, Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhry, and Lt Gen Harbhinder Singh Vandra (Signals).
