New Delhi: A Finance Ministry expenditure panel has cleared an outlay of ₹1.25 lakh crore for India’s Semiconductor Mission 2.0. The proposal is expected to be taken up by the Union Cabinet shortly.

The central government said the mission aims to build a domestic semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen India’s capabilities across the semiconductor supply chain.

Under the earlier India Semiconductor Mission 1, the Centre had earmarked ₹76,000 crore. This included ₹65,000 crore as incentives for chip manufacturing companies, ₹10,000 crore to modernise the semiconductor laboratory in Mohali, Punjab, and ₹1,000 crore to support chip design firms.

According to the report, the approval for the 2.0 outlay was granted in a meeting held last week. The government said the new phase is intended to reinforce the full semiconductor programme, covering both chip design and manufacturing.
