Annamalai has appealed for a fight against drug use, urging people to begin a citizen-led movement from July 1. In a video message, he said the change should start with individuals and families, aiming for a drug-free Tamil Nadu.
He said the campaign has been planned by dividing July into four parts. For the first week, he said he and his family would take a pledge from today not to use drugs.
As part of the programme, a large public meeting titled “Drug-free Pollachi” has been scheduled in Pollachi on July 12. Another public interaction and protest-style gathering for a drug-free Tamil Nadu is planned in the Tiruchendur region on July 26.
Annamalai said the government would do its work, while society should act as a movement on its own. He said he would participate in both the Pollachi and Tiruchendur events and asked members of the “We The Leaders” family to mobilise people in their respective areas and spread information through the app.
