Communist party leaders on Tuesday rejected DMK leader M.K. Stalin’s claim that the TVK government would collapse, saying the state has no such political situation.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, CPI state secretary Veerappandian said he met Chief Minister Vijay at the Secretariat as a courtesy call and raised key demands related to workers. He said issues concerning farmers, agricultural labourers and government employees were also placed before the Chief Minister.
Veerappandian said the CPI and CPM did not attend the consultation meeting of ally parties, noting that the two parties are not part of the government and are not in an alliance. He said they are extending support from outside for political reasons, including safeguarding people’s mandate and ensuring the Governor does not overstep.
CPM state secretary Shanmugam said it was not acceptable to suggest the government would fall, adding that there is no such environment in Tamil Nadu. He said the government has adequate majority and that the communists have conveyed firm support.
