The DMK, after its defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, formed a field study committee to identify the reasons behind the setback. The panel visited all 234 constituencies, met party functionaries and submitted its findings to the leadership.
Party sources said the report carries a high number of complaints against former ministers and district secretaries. It also suggests structural changes, including appointing two district secretaries for a constituency.
According to the assessment, taking immediate action against former ministers and district secretaries could trigger internal divisions and weaken the party’s organisational framework. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is said to be considering calling the functionaries for an inquiry and issuing warnings instead of punitive steps.
However, Udhayanidhi Stalin is reportedly urging the leadership not to shield those named in the report. He is said to be pressing for firm action against those found at fault and for giving opportunities to younger members, along with a proposal to appoint one district secretary for every two Assembly constituencies.
With Stalin said to be hesitant, questions are being raised within party circles on whether the field report will lead to major organisational changes.
