A verdict has been delivered on the question of who holds the rights to songs composed by veteran music director Ilaiyaraaja, following long-running copyright-related disputes.
Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for more than 1,500 films, and many of his songs have been remade over the years. The repeated reuse of these works has brought copyright issues to the forefront.
The dispute has centred on multiple aspects of rights, including song copyright, commercial exploitation, digital releases and music broadcast permissions.
The latest ruling is expected to influence how Ilaiyaraaja’s compositions are used and licensed across platforms and formats going forward.
