A major accident at a stone quarry in Karnataka has claimed the lives of seven workers from Bihar after a giant rock collapsed at a work site in Bengaluru.

The incident occurred early Wednesday at a private quarry in Madappattana area under Bengaluru South taluk. Workers were engaged in preparations to install a new crusher machine when stone-removal work was being carried out using a Hitachi machine from a height of around 100 feet.

Officials said a huge rock unexpectedly rolled down and fell on workers at the site. Around 15 to 20 labourers were reportedly present at the time, and seven were trapped under the rock and died.

Police and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and began removing debris. Several others sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.

Rescue teams continued searching to check if anyone else remained trapped, and the area was sealed off as operations continued. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed condolences to the families of those who died.
