The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a hotter-than-normal July across much of the country, along with generally reduced rainfall.
In its monthly outlook, the IMD said all-India rainfall is expected to be below the normal level of 28 cm for July. However, it noted that a few regions could still receive normal to above-normal showers.
According to the forecast, parts of the northwest and northeast, along with some areas in central-east and the east peninsular region, may see rainfall at or above typical levels.
On temperatures, the IMD said daytime and nighttime heat is likely to remain above normal in most parts of India, except in some west-central areas.
The department added that the impact of heat could intensify due to lower rainfall during the pre-monsoon phase of the ongoing southwest monsoon.
