Chennai Police informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that the film Jananayagan, which was allegedly leaked online, has been viewed by about 1.2 crore people.

The case relates to the unauthorised online circulation of Jananayagan, described as actor Vijay’s last film. The movie has not been released yet due to multiple reasons, including certification-related issues, according to the submissions in court.

Following the leak, the cyber crime police launched an investigation and arrested several people. Police have also registered cases against 21 persons in connection with the incident.

The production company has approached the Madras High Court over the leak. During the hearing of bail petitions filed by two accused, the police argued that granting bail could lead to tampering with evidence.

Accepting the police submissions, the court dismissed the bail pleas.
