Residents of a village have raised concerns about the functioning of a local school, pointing out that the institution currently has only one girl student on its rolls.

According to the villagers, the school has two teachers — headmistress Mary and another teacher, Jeeva — who continue to receive salaries. They said the headmistress is paid Rs 1.30 lakh and Jeeva Rs 80,000.

They also claimed that the school’s cooking assistant is paid Rs 7,000. Despite this, villagers alleged that even routine tasks such as changing the date written on the blackboard are not being attended to.

The residents said the school had five students last year, but the strength has now dropped to just one student, and they urged attention to the issue.
