MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday accused the DMK of having initiated what he called the “shameful” practice of political horse-trading in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters, Vaiko cited an earlier episode in the Cumbum constituency, alleging that an MDMK winner, Ramakrishnan, was made to resign and later fielded by the DMK in the subsequent by-election. He questioned how the DMK could now level similar allegations against the AIADMK.
Vaiko said the MDMK will not contest the by-elections expected to be held in the state soon. However, he added that the party would support the political change underway in Tamil Nadu under Chief Minister Vijay.
He also claimed the MDMK faced repeated humiliation while it was part of the DMK-led alliance, and said the party quit the alliance to protect its self-respect. Vaiko further asserted that accusations against his party would not be believed by the public.
Praising the current administration, Vaiko said people “love” the government and that support has increased compared to earlier. He also claimed corruption seen under the DMK rule had been eliminated under Chief Minister Vijay.
